Trustmarque Team win IT Industry Yachting Event

Having just completed a record Financial Year ending 31 August 2011, the 2011 Trustmarque & Playing Around crew continued their winning streak in the EMC-sponsored Silicon Cup regatta which took place on 15-16 September 2011.

Over 200 companies from across the IT sector attended this year’s event, competing for the coveted regatta trophy as well as supporting a range of charities including the NSPCC, Dreams Come True & the Jubilee Sailing Trust. Since its inception, the Silicon Cup event has raised over £300,000 for various charities.

The Trustmarque-sponsored yacht, Playing Around, is family-owned and run by skipper Peter Robson who was joined by son Nick and daughter Bethany for this year’s racing.

The Silicon Cup comprised four races this year, with conditions ranging from strong spring equinox tides coupled with low wind, to choppy waves with strong gusts approaching 30 knots. The team got off to a flying start in three, but jumped the gun in the fourth, so had to double back around the start line to begin at the back of the fleet. However, Playing Around quickly gained lost ground under skipper Peter Robson’s guidance; Peter’s tactics, coupled with an exceptional team effort from the crew, saw Playing Around finish first in all four races.

In 2011 Playing Around also successfully completed the Round Britain and Ireland Race, the Cowes Week Regatta and the Rolex Fastnet race. Next weekend her crew will compete at the European Championships, and we wish them all the best.
